DAVIS: WE HAVE A BREXIT PLAN B

(And we want our £9bn back - May)

- By PAUL DONNELLEY news@dailystar.co.uk

BREXIT Secretary David Davis insists the Government has a Plan B if it cannot strike a deal with the EU in divorce talks.

The MP said Britain is ready if negotiations “go wrong” and demands are not met – but he expects “to get a good outcome”.

Theresa May is expected to trigger Article 50 as early as tomorrow, setting in motion the process of leaving the bloc.

Mr Davis said: “The aim is to get a good outcome and I’m confident I’ll get a good outcome.

“One of the reasons we don’t talk about the contingency plan too much is we don’t want people to think this is what we are trying to do.”

He added: “We have been planning for ® the contingency, all the various outcomes, all the possible outcomes of the negotiations.” The Prime Minister, left, has repeatedly said she would rather walk away without a settlement than agree to a “bad deal”. Meanwhile Mrs May is ready to demand £9billion of assets back from the EU when we leave. Some EU officials have said we could face a £50bn bill from the bloc, but Government sources claim that Britain is entitled to get some money back. Mrs May is ready to press the EU for our share of funds held by the European Investment Bank. It has been suggested the Government is not legally obliged to hand Brussels a penny and the PM could refuse to pay. EU chief Jean Claude Juncker said Britain would face a “hefty bill” for Brexit. He said last month that the EU will seek payment to cover existing spending commitments made by Britain. He told the Belgian Parliament: “The British should know this, they know this already, that it will not be at a discount or at zero cost. “The British must respect commitments they were involved in making. “So the bill will be, to put it a bit crudely, very hefty.”
