BRITAIN will be hotter than Mallorca this week as tropical winds bring in sizzling temperatures.

Much of the UK will be bathed in sunshine for most of the week with thermometers expected to hit the high teens and above.

It is expected to reach 20C in the south, although further north it will still remain balmy with temperatures of up to 16C.

It could push temperatures warmer than Mallorca, Spain, where it will be just 18C.

Racegoers heading to the Cheltenham Festival may have to pack sun cream while many can also enjoy some early ice cream weather.

Forecaster Kristina Pydynowski said: “Mild weather will dominate during the week, to the delight of those planning to attend the Cheltenham Festival.

Burst

“A pocket of cooler air will sink into Spain and open the door for more April-like warmth across the UK this week. The warmth will hold in most areas into Wednesday and Thursday.”

Friday promises to be cooler before the mercury climbs for next weekend.

WeatherOnline forecaster John Ejdowski said: “During the week high pressure is expected to build in across England and Wales with little in the way of rainfall.

“Fronts with rain are then likely across the north-west, with a wetter end to the week. Temperatures will be high with a cooler day to come on Friday before rebounding for the weekend.”

Britain enjoyed an early burst of warm weather at the weekend with temperatures hitting 17.7C in Gravesend, Kent.
