MICHAEL Barrymore is making a sensational comeback in a new sitcom.

He has spent more than a decade in the TV wilderness.

The entertainer, who shot to stardom in the 90s, was dropped by ITV in 2001 after Stuart Lubbock, 31, was found dead in his swimming pool.

Since then the performer – who headlined the 1993 Royal Variety Performance – has only appeared in Celebrity Big Brother and as a guest host of Channel 4’s The Friday Night Project in 2006.

But he will return in a new comedy series with Game Of Thrones and Sherlock star Tom Brooke.

Barrymore was spotted in a photograph tweeted by production company Antenna.

The image was captioned: “Great shoot today with two very talented actors.” Barrymore, 64, retweeted it, adding: “Brilliant second day filming with Tom Brooke.

“Never mentioned Game Of Thrones once... class act, and a really nice guy.”

Pressed by fans about the show, he simply replied: “New sitcom. The production company filming it put that picture on of us on set.

“If you liked Bob Martin this one will be right up your street.”

Bob Martin was a sitcom that ran from 2000 to 2001 and won Barrymore an award for his portrayal of a troubled daytime gameshow host.

Asked if the new show was an attempt at a comeback he replied: “I suppose that’s what it’s called...”
