Kane season KO fear Lions taunt probe

- by PAUL BROWN

TOTTENHAM fear Harry Kane could be out for the season after suffering an ankle injury in their FA Cup rout of Millwall.

The 24-goal striker left White Hart Lane on crutches with his right foot in a protective boot.

An injury to the same ankle sidelined Kane for almost two months earlier this season and a similar lay-off could seriously harm Spurs’ hopes of silverware.

A Heung-Min Son hat-trick and further goals from Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Vincent Janssen booked Spurs into their first semi-final for five years.

Millwall, meanwhile, could find themselves in hot water with the FA after the League One club’s fans taunted South Korean Son for most of the game.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino fears the worst for Kane, saying: “He twisted his ankle, the same ankle that was before. Now it’s a matter of waiting. It

is a similar situation, but we’ll see. We need to wait and be positive.”

Pochettino (left) added: “We need to assess him. We hope it’s not a big issue but it looks similar. If you watch it on television, it was a similar action.

“I’m sad about the Harry injury, but now it’s about trying to find a solution. We have enough players to try and replace him.”

Kane looks certain to miss England’s games against Lithuania and Germany later this month.

Spurs star Dele Alli said: “It is always horrible to lose a player like Harry but when he went off everyone stepped up a gear. We wish him a speedy recovery.

“It was an important win for us, not just in the cup but in the league as well. It is important to get the goals. We were hungry for goals.” Millwall taunted Tottenham’s hat-trick hero with chants of “DVD” and “He’s selling three for a fiver”, a reference to the stereotype of Asian street sellers hawking counterfeit goods.

Police also struggled to keep rival fans apart outside the ground.

The Lions are already under investigation after Leicester complained of players and staff being abused at The Den in the last round.

Millwall boss Neil Harris said: “I didn’t hear anything. What I will say is me personally, and the club, we won’t condone that.

“We came here in the right spirit. I’m sure it will be investigated.

“We want to focus on the achievement of getting here. Mauricio will want to talk about the quality of his team and for me the focus comes away from what we’ve achieved. It’s wrong in society and it’s wrong in football.”
