Hungry Terriers up and at ’em!

- DARREN WITCOOP

RAJIV VAN LA PARRA says Huddersfield’s promotion rivals have every reason to be nervous of David Wagner’s surprise packages.

The in-form Terriers turned up the heat on Newcastle and Brighton with their latest win.

It left the Yorkshiremen six points behind the top two with a game in hand.

And Huddersfield goal hero La Parra said: “For those teams it’s really difficult because we are right behind them.

“We will keep putting pressure on them as the players believe we can get automatic promotion.

“I think it’s difficult for Brighton because they came so close last season and missed out.

“They are getting close again so might be getting a little nervous.

“They’re fancied to go up but we fancy ourselves. We are third and have a good chance. So why not?

“There’s more pressure on those teams – they have to go up.

“For us, it’s a little bit easier. It’s been a really good season so far and we are in a good place.”

The Dutchman claimed the 28th-minute winner, although the final touch looked to have come off Brentford’s Harlee Dean.

Mid-table Brentford laid siege to the visitors’ goal after that but Lasse Vibe missed a sitter and rattled the bar.

However, Bees keeper Dan Bentley says there is no chance his team-mates will just go through the motions between now and the end of the season.

He said: “We have to try and do ourselves justice and we don’t want to be looking over our shoulders. We’re too good for that. So to say there’s nothing to play for is a load of rubbish.”
