TRAGIC George Michael’s private burial plot is under round-the-clock guard to stop ghouls invading his final resting place.

Security has been ramped up as staff prepare the star’s grave ahead of his secret funeral.

Staff at Highgate Cemetery, north London, are keeping the venue under 24-hour surveillance as fans flock to pay their respects.

It will also be monitored in the weeks to come amid fears it could be targeted by people desperate to steal tributes left by friends and relatives.

The singer’s family have kept details of the service under wraps, but it is rumoured to take place today.

Circus

A sea of tributes made from flowers and cards dedicated to the Wham! star lay outside his London home.

Relatives are trying to avoid the sombre occasion turning into a “circus”. Sir Elton John, Martin Kemp and George’s Wham! bandmate Andrew Ridgeley are among those preparing to say farewell. Kate Moss had to pull her bags off an India-bound plane she was about to board after hearing the funeral is imminent.

His family want a traditional Greek Orthodox ceremony and his sister Melanie, 55, is lead organiser.

Spice Girl Geri Horner will give a reading, sources said.

The service was delayed after an initial post mortem proved inconclusive and more tests had to be done.

A coroner ruled the singer died from natural causes.

His body was discovered by his boyfriend Fadi Fawaz, 43, on Christmas Day. The celebrity hairdresser claims he has been kept in the dark over the funeral arrangements but he is expected to attend.

George will be buried alongside his mum Lesley, who died in 1997.
