Dyche blows critics away

- by MIKE WHALLEY

SEAN DYCHE insists that he can cope with Burnley not winning away if they stay in the Premier League. The Clarets have managed just two points on their travels all season – and have not won an away game in any competition for more than 10 months. They have the chance to end that run at bottom club Sunderland today, but Dyche is sure that Burnley can secure survival even if they fail to break their away day duck this season. He said: “Inevitably, no one remembers what happens during the season. They only remember where you finish. That’s for any season, any team.

“If you win the league, no one really cares where the points come from. All they remember is the fact that you won the league.”

Burnley are seven points clear of the relegation zone going into today’s game, thanks to their superb form at Turf Moor.

Dyche’s side have picked up as many points at home as Arsenal this season, and more than both Manchester City and Manchester United. But a quirk of the fixture list means they have not played a home league game since February 12 – and will not have another one until the start of April.

The manager added: “If we’d won six at home and three away, I don’t think anyone would bat an eyelid.

“The thing that I do find interesting is that we seem to get as much airplay [about our away form] as Leicester.

“They won the league last year. They’re in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, and they haven’t won away in the Premier League.

“I’m happy for everyone to question our away form. But I don’t hear that much about Leicester.”
