DAREDEVIL Richard Hammond has insisted “I’m not dead” after falling off a speeding motorbike in a horror crash while filming in a remote part of Africa.

The accident-prone telly presenter ended up lying unconscious with head injuries on a dirt track road in the middle of nowhere.

But yesterday he joked about filming hairraising scenes for The Grand Tour in Africa, posting online: “It’s true. I did fall off a motor bike in Mozambique. But I’ve checked and I’m not dead.”

In a post on fan forum Drive Tribe, the Hamster added: “I banged my head, yes, along with pretty much everything else apart from my left thumb, which remains un-bruised.”

Depression

Hammond almost died in a horrifying 288mph crash in 2006 when one of the tyres of a jet-powered car failed during filming of a Top Gear episode.

He survived but when he woke from a twoweek coma, he was left with some lasting brain damage which triggered depression and memory loss.

In 2015, Hammond left Top Gear with James May after their co-star Jeremy Clarkson was sacked for punching a producer in the face.

The trio were snapped up by Amazon Prime for their new car show, The Grand Tour, and are currently filming their second series.

Hammond, 47, has said he cannot reveal anything more about his latest accident until the new show is screened.

He added: “That’s for later in the year. But as for injuries. Well, put it this way, I don’t think I can get a book out of it.”
