Wenger has left Guns in the dark

- by DAVID WOODS

ARSENE WENGER has left the country – and left his Arsenal players and staff in the dark over his future.

The Gunners boss announced at the weekend he has made a final decision on his future.

But he returned to France after Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at West Brom without letting anyone in the dressing room know whether he plans to stay on at the club.

Starsport can reveal Wenger (above) has not given a clue to anyone at Arsenal about his intentions, despite reports he has decided to sign a new two-year deal.

Fans are turning against the Frenchman in growing numbers following their worst league run in his 21 years at the club.

They have lost four out of their last five matches and crashed out of the Champions League a fortnight ago after a humiliating 10-2 aggregate

defeat by Bayern Munich. They are sixth in the table, 19 points behind leaders Chelsea. They trail Liverpool, in the last Champions League place, by six points although they have two games in hand on them.

Their only hope of a trophy this season is the FA Cup, where they play Manchester City in the semi-finals on April 23.

Starsport has revealed how the top target to replace him, Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri, gave the Gunners a deadline of the end of this month to say what Wenger was doing.

It is understood there is concern at Arsenal that the uncertainty about Wenger is affecting the performances of the team.

But Manchester City star Bacary Sagna insists his former boss is still the right man for the club.

Sagna, who spent seven seasons under Wenger at Arsenal, said: “I am quite sad for the manager because he doesn’t deserve what’s happening to him.

“He’s a great man and an institution for Arsenal.”
