I will save Nightly Show from axe

GORD DARES TROLLS

- By PETER DYKE peter.dyke@dailystar.co.uk

GORDON Ramsay thinks he can rescue The Nightly Show when he takes over tonight.

The chef, who is famed for his bad language, has even dared to taunt the trolls attacking the battered series.

Hosts David Walliams, John Bishop, Dermot O’Leary and Davina McCall have all been the subject of abuse on social media.

Viewers have branded the programme “utter rubbish” and “a national embarrassment” and some evenings the ratings have dropped to below a million.

Ramsay makes his debut in the hot seat tonight and will present all this week.

But he admits: “I know I’m going to get a kicking. It can’t get any worse. The knives are out.

“I quite like that. I’m robust. I’m gonna stand strong and take the blows. I have to do something different – that’s important.”

The foul-mouthed cook admits he was one of the viewers who switched off The Nightly Show during launch week when Britain’s Got Talent judge Walliams was hosting.

Vicious

He said: “I watched the first two nights.

“David Walliams is a national treasure, so to see him get beaten up was a bit unfair. All the sarcastic remarks and vicious stuff.

“But the viewing figures speak for themselves.”

And even Ramsay’s wife Tana suggested he pull out when the show – brought in to replace ITV’s The News At Ten – started to come under fire and was dubbed a disaster.

But the 50-year-old celebrity cook revealed he was not going to quit.

He added: “First thing Tana said to me: ‘Are you going to pull out?’

“Am I f*** going to pull out. No. I wouldn’t do that.

“If I commit to something, I do it.

“I just need to have a bit of fun with it.”
