WISHES CAN LAND TREBLE

- By STAR REPORTER

BEGGAR’S WISHES (nap, 3.00 Plumpton) won as he pleased at Southwell last week and looks set to defy a penalty this afternoon.

That Southwell success followed hard on the heels of a similarly easy win at Bangor and Beggar’s Wishes is clearly in the form of his life.

The Peter Bowen-trained six-year-old was partnered to his two wins by his son Sean, but Jamie Moore takes the ride today with Sean going to Market Rasen for a Paul Nicholls’ runner.

The handicapper will have his say after that Southwell saunter, so Bowen is justified in bringing out Beggar’s Wishes under a 7lb penalty.

Switching from the jumps to the all-weather at Wolverhampton, EARTHLY (3.20, nb) can score at the Midlands track.

Earthly, who is trained by Ralph Beckett and runs in the colours worn by Arrogate, sensational winner of the Dubai World Cup at Meydan at the ® weekend, broke his maiden in good style at Lingfield last month.

It was his first try on an artificial surface and Earthly took well to it.

The 1lb he gets from James Fanshawe’s consistent Enfolding could tip the balance in his favour.

Staying at Wolverhampton, SHEER INTENSITY (4.20, treble) can end a frustrating run of seconds.

Normally, I would hesitate to recommend a horse that is an habitual loser, but Sheer Intensity hasn’t done much wrong in defeat. ARROGATE looked like a monster when taking the World Cup at Meydan in Dubai on Saturday, powering home under Mike Smith from what had seemed a hopeless position on the turn in to the straight. In the process, he became the top earner of all time, taking his winnings to in excess of £13million despite only making his debut last April.
