Brits bake as Summer Time begins

THE hottest weekend of the year so far is set to usher in blistering sunshine for a glorious Easter.

Bookies believe the holiday could see record-breaking temperatures.

THE hottest weekend of the year so far is set to usher in blistering sunshine all week.

And it will signal the start of a glorious Easter period that book-ies say could smash all records.

William Hill has slashed odds to 8-1 on next month’s bank holiday weekend beating 2011’s 27.8C as the hottest on record, with temperatures more suited to ice creams than melt-ing chocolate eggs.

Spokesman Rupert Adams said: “Easter is very late this year and if Mother’s Day is anything to go by, we could just see further weather records tumble.”

And the chances of a sensational summer are looking good as Brits bathed in glorious warmth after the clocks went forward yesterday.

Highs

Millions packed boozers and parks to bask in the sunshine.

Aviemore, in the Scottish High-lands, hit 19.9C on Mothering Sunday, making it the hottest day of the year so far, while temperatures rocketed to more than 15C in some parts of the country.

Now the mercury is set to continue rising throughout the week.

Workers will look for any excuse to get out of the offi ce today to enjoy highs of 17C.

And thermometers are forecast to reach 20C for “thirsty Thursday” as sun-seekers fl ock to beer gardens to enjoy the summer-like conditions.

The best of the weather is likely to be in the south and east of the coun-try, although the north will not miss out on the mini-heatwave.

The remaining blustery winds left behind by Storm Stella will relent this week, but forecasters are still warning of chilly nights.

Although there is a chance of frost in the mornings, the expected sun-shine will quickly blast it away.
