SCOTT FEELING SMILES BETTER

BOXING Quigg having a laugh in LA

SCOTT QUIGG has revealed the LA sunshine has got him smiling again – and how his mum is helping him enjoy life Stateside.

The former WBA superbantamweight champion has swapped Bury for the Golden State as he goes in search of a world title at featherweight.

Quigg surprisingly split with long-time trainer Joe Gallagher last month to move to America and link up with legendary coach Freddie Roach.

He felt his career stalled after his loss in February 2016 to Carl Frampton, despite a comeback victory over Jose Cayetano last December.

He even admitted he ballooned in weight between the two fights as his love for the sport suffered.

Now he does his training runs in scenic Griffith Park looking down on Los every day has been amazing. It is only going to bring me on. I can feel the benefits already.

“Joe did great things for me, I’ll always be thankful. We had great success but I needed a different voice, a different environment. I needed a full change.

“I want to become a world champion again and this time I want to stay at that elite level.”

Roach has a long list of fighters, although high-profile names like Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto are his prime clients.

But Quigg said: “I’m getting the time I need.

“People questioned whether I would get that time but there is no doubt I will.

“I’m not stupid, I know I won’t be No.1 but I have my own time slot with him.”

Quigg, who is preparing for a possible fight on the undercard of Anthony Joshua’s heavyweight clash with Wladimir Klitschko at Wembley on April 29, has also flown out mother Lynsay to help.

“I waited until I got settled then rang her up and surprised her with a flight out,” he said.

“She has always been a big part of my training camp so it is great to have her here.”

But girlfriend Bev has been left behind in Bury sorting out the new house they bought recently.

“It has been a big change but she is fantastic about it,” added Quigg. “I don’t know what I’d do without her.

“She has so much patience, but what I am doing here will hopefully make life better for both of us in the long run.”
