Hilltop concert for pair

-

A CONCERT in memory of two climbers who died on Ben Nevis is to be staged on a Lakeland peak.

Rachel Slater, 24, and Tim Newton, 27, were missing for five weeks before their bodies were found.

A grand piano will be carried 900ft up to Claife Heights above Windermere to raise £5,000 for the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team which found them.

Steve Spencer, organiser of Saturday’s event, said: “We’ve called the event An April Folly, and although it sounds like a stunt, it was born out of tragedy.”

Rachel, who lived near Bradford, and Tim, originally from Leicester, were killed in a huge avalanche on Valentine’s Day last year.

Rachel’s parents Nigel and Rosemary said: “This is a beautiful way to honour Rachel and Tim.”
