BEN FOSTER has been hailed as key to West Brom’s shock push for Europe.

The Baggies travel to Foster’s old club Manchester United on Saturday sitting eighth in the table – three places and nine points behind Jose Mourinho’s men

Baggies’ skipper Darren Fletcher came through the ranks at Old Trafford with Foster and reckons he is among the best keepers in the country.

Foster, a former chef who is 34 on Monday, has been in brilliant form.

Fletcher said: “I remember him from his days at United and there was a feeling that he was next in line to take over from Edwin Van Der Saar. Unfortunately it didn’t happen.

“But there were no doubts that Ben was a top keeper. He’s an England level goalkeeper.

“Ben doesn’t just make saves, he gets the ball away, over the bar or wherever, away from danger as well.

“It’s easy sometimes to just save things and the ball drops down for rebounds or for someone to have another crack at it.

“Ben doesn’t do that and I think that’s the sign of a good goalkeeper when they are saving things and then somehow managing to get it safe.”

Baggies boss Tony Pulis will be happy if Foster has little to do against United.

But Fletcher said: “Against Bournemouth recently he hadn’t had that much to do then pulls off two great saves in stoppage time.

“That’s the difference between a topclass keeper and others.

“We kept them relatively quiet and then he makes two world class saves.” Sky Bet League Two Accrington (1) ........... 2 Cambridge Utd (0) ..0
