LEROY SANE has thanked Pep Guardiola for turning him into a Premier League superstar.

Sane, 21, endured a difficult start to life in English football following his £37m switch to Manchester City from Schalke last summer.

The Germany star was forced to wait for his debut until September because of fitness problems. But the winger has gone from strength to strength, scoring seven goals in 26 games to become an integral member of Guardiola’s side.

Sane reckons his improvement is down to the former Barcelona boss.

“It is a lot of fun to work with him and he expects a lot from me,” said Sane. “But that helps every single player move forward. He has improved me in all areas.”

Sane now wants to establish himself in Joachim Low’s German squad after winning his sixth cap as a substitute in Sunday’s 4-1 win over Azerbaijan.

He added: “I want to prove myself now and show that I would like to be part of the national team all the time.”
