TRINNY Woodall has been blasted for promoting a diet supplement which can cause cancer.

The fashion guru’s chromium drops regime was labelled “nonsense” by nutrition experts.

Trinny, 53, promoted the controversial drops in a Facebook video for her 300,000 fans about her strict “no sugar, no carbs” diet.

She said: “Someone said the best way to get off sugar is to have chromium drops and eat lots of protein for four days and don’t go near any carbohydrates because all those things turn into sugar. So that’s what I’m doing.”

She added: “I’m day three of no sugar and this is the most miraculous thing for me.” But experts have hit back at Trinny, saying there is no evidence linking chromium supplements to weight loss.

Professor Gary Frost, a nutrition expert at Imperial College London, labelled the What Not To Wear presenter’s diet “nonsense”.

He said: “There is no evidence that chromium drops will help anyone reduce their sugar intake.

“There have been reports of a few serious side-effects from high intakes.”

The NHS recommends a small amount of chromium every day, but warns too much can be harmful.

Chemical

Some chromium drops contain up to 20 times the recommended daily allowance. And a 2016 study by researchers at the University of Sydney and University of New South Wales in Australia found excessive consumption of chromium could cause cancer.

They found when it enters the body’s cells it is partially converted into a cancer-causing chemical.

Chromium is a mineral which is found naturally in vegetables, meats, dairy products and pulses.

It helps turn fats, carbohydrates and proteins into energy.

Trinny’s representative did not respond to the Daily Star’s request for a comment.

It came as a new study claimed bestselling cookbooks by Gwyneth Paltrow and other celebrities give poor advice on food hygiene.

Researchers said most of the guides provide little useful information on how to avoid food poisoning.
