Gunners are bored by Wenger

Ex-star’s shock claim

- by DAVID WOODS

FORMER Arsenal star Alan Smith says Arsene Wenger has to go – because his players have got BORED with him.

“I think his time has reached its natural ending,’ said ex-Gunners striker Smith (above).

“Some of the players have spent a long time listening to the same voice and I think it has become stale.

“Arsenal has become his life – he gets up at six, he’s at the training ground by 8am, he goes home at 6pm, watches football, and then comes back the next day and does it all over again.

“He’s almost become institutionalised in the Arsenal life.

“If he came out on the pitch and said, ‘I’ve had a fantastic time but I’m going to walk away in the summer’, he would go out as the legend that he is.

“It would put a stop to all the poison and in-fighting among the fans.

“But if there’s an offer of a contract there, he’s probably thinking, ‘Why

shouldn’t I sign it?’.” Wenger has been at the club for over 20 years.

He thanked Gunners fans for their backing after Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Manchester City, but faces West Ham at the Emirates tomorrow desperately trying to halt his side’s slide out of the top four.

Smith’s fellow Sky Sports pundit and Starsport columnist Paul Merson claimed the lack of good feeling towards him was illustrated by the low-key player celebrations for the first equaliser against City.

“I play Sunday morning vets’ football with my mates and I celebrate more than Theo Walcott did,” said the former Gunners star.

“It was the equaliser and helped your manager, who has looked after you. Surely you run over to him?” SKY SPORTS will show the biggest games in the Premier League run-in, such as Chelsea v Manchester United, the North London and Manchester derbies, plus much more.
