Drunk mother let kids play barefoot in glass

A HUNGOVER mum who slept as her three children roamed a house with smashed windows has been jailed.
Carly Aldred, 29, abandoned her youngsters to play barefoot, stepping over broken glass and cans, a court heard.
It took police 10 minutes to wake her from an intoxicated state.
Officers were called to the house in Droylsden, Gtr Manchester, after reports of a window being shattered. They found her three children, one wearing nothing but a pyjama top, wandering around the house unattended.
Carl Gaffney, prosecuting, told the court: “Officers were concerned for the children as they were running around where the glass smashed without any shoes.
“There was no food in the house except a packet of cereal and some peas.”
John Mitchell, defending, said Aldred was not “someone who drinks excessively”.
He added: “She had a drink with her medication, which might explain why she was so drowsy.”
Aldred, who pleaded guilty to three counts of neglect, sobbed in the dock at Manchester Magistrates’ Court.
District Judge Mark Hadfield sentenced Aldred to 16 weeks in prison.
He said: “These three offences are so serious that only a custodial sentence is appropriate.”
