I’LL FIGHT FOR UNITED FUTURE

- by CHRIS McKENNA

LUKE SHAW has vowed to fight for his Manchester United career.

The England left-back’s future at the club is in serious doubt after fierce public criticism from Jose Mourinho.

The Old Trafford boss last week questioned Shaw’s attitude, claiming he was “a long way behind” the rest of his team-mates.

He was left out of the squad for the weekend stalemate with West Brom before being recalled for Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Everton.

Humiliation

Even then Mourinho could not resist another swipe by insisting Shaw could not think for himself and had to be talked through his 20-minute substitute appearance.

Despite this latest public humiliation by Mourinho, Shaw still believes he has a future at Old Trafford.

He said: “I am loving it at United. The fans have been incredible over the last couple of days.

“I am keeping my head up and I am not going to give up. I love this club and I will give everything to stay here.

“I am working really hard, now more than ever. I am going through a phase where everything is going against me but I want this so badly. I want to prove everyone wrong.”

Shaw was speaking after Mourinho had just said his side need “his fantastic physical and technical qualities but he cannot play with my brain”, with ‘The Special One’ adding that he was “making every decision for him”. Shaw, 21, has endured a nightmare since his £27m move from Southampton in 2014. He struggled for form under Louis van Gaal before suffering a horrific leg break at the start of his second term. Mourinho has so far been unconvinced by a player who just a couple of years ago was tipped to be an England regular. Shaw said: “Obviously the stuff that has been going on has been hard to take because, deep down, that is not me as a person. “Jose said he wants to see me fighting – and I will fight to the last second because I want to be here for the club. “I want to play for the manager and I want to help this team get back to the top. “The fans have been so good to me, especially the last two days. That’s why I love them. “It is easy for them to see those comments and turn on me. “But the passion they have always shown to me is amazing and is something I don’t and won’t forget because it means a lot to me. “I don’t want to let them down and I will fight for every one of the fans.”
