THE nation is on course to splash out £13billion over the Easter holiday weekend.

The average person will spend £247 on short holidays, chocolate eggs, family time, eating out and cracking on with DIY projects.

We are most likely to visit beaches and parks or go to the cinema to watch a blockbuster movie.

Buying chocolate treats also adds up, with the average person spending £14 on eggs and bunnies, according to figures from American Express.

Londoners have the sweetest tooth, splashing out £21 on chocolate, while those in Bristol spend just £8.

Fun

Parents will fork out nearly £300 each on average to keep the kids entertained. While Easter is a time for children to have fun, the opposite is true for mum and dad. More than one in five say that deciding what to dish up for dinner is more nerve-racking than solving family feuds or even going to work. Jenny Cheung, director at American Express, said: “For many, Easter weekend is the first chance for a well-deserved break this year. “Our research shows that nearly half of Brits are planning to be out and about, which means the holiday bill can soon add up.” Easter has finally arrived three months after the first chocolate eggs went on sale. They were spotted at a Coop store in Rhyl, Denbighs, a few days after Christmas.
