MANCHESTER United striker Wayne Rooney has clocked up some 250,000 miles during his playing career.

England’s record goalscorer has travelled a total distance further than the Moon to play in matches all over the world.

Wayne, 31, has also scored an impressive 13.12 goals per 10,000 miles travelled – more than the world’s two best players Ronaldo, on 10.64, and Lionel Messi, on 10.58.

Former West Ham and Man City striker Carlos Tevez, currently in China, is the most expensive player compared with distance made. He has been paid £1,339 per mile travelled. The research, conducted by travel site Kiwi.com, shows the enormous airmiles top players have to clock up to play at the highest level. It also puts Bayern Munich’s Polish striker Robert Lewandowski, 28, as the most clinical traveller in the game.

The lethal finisher has banged in an incredible 21.13 goals per 10,000 miles on the road – showing he probably could do it on a cold Tuesday night in Stoke.

The biggest active jet-setters all spent most of their careers at Spanish giants Barcelona or Real Madrid.

Real’s Ronaldo, 32, and Barca’s Messi, 29, and Xavi, 37, have all totted up more than 500,000 miles – while the top current player is Spanish goalkeeping legend Iker Casillas, 35, with 564,000.

Kiwi.com’s Stephen Davis said: “On top of this are the millions of miles that fans clock up when they follow their teams across the globe.”
