THIS week I’m going to bring you a car with a difference.
It’s the distinctive Mercedes E Class Estate by BBC.
Now you’ll have noticed that I didn’t say “the” BBC and that’s because car manufacturers never say things like that.
You’ll get the Peugeot 108 by Tennis Court, or the VW Golf by Matchplay but the word “the” just slows things down.
I’ve selected the E Class by BBC because, for some weird reason BBC Sport has now dropped giving match attendances from their football reports. Why?
Is it because some know-nothing has decided that they’re bad for our health? Perhaps they think: “Oh they don’t need to know that.”
Worse
Having been a football reporter myself I know that attendances always appear on match reports but the BBC remove them, therefore giving the public an even worse “service” than they already do. It’s not a service. It’s a disservice.
So let’s look at the extremely good looking and posh Mercedes E Class Estate. When it arrived from the factory for its “by BBC” treatment the first thing that happened to it was that it lost its electrically adjustable and heated front seats.
“No, they don’t need them,” said Mr BBC.
That meant that the heated door mirrors and windscreen washer jets had to go, too. “They don’t need them.”
What about the electrically adjustable head restraints? “Stop spoiling them.” The reversing camera? Eight-inch
