The ex Spice Girl paid £1m for a retreat on a US lake for Stephen’s birthday in 2014. But the couple have hardly ever visited the place. She has told lawyers he can keep the hideaway in Virginia, along with a £5m settlement that includes a gagging order.
Stephen wants £10m of Mel’s £48m fortune but is likely to take the offered pay-off for a quick end to their bitter battle.
A source close to Mel’s family in Leeds said: “Mel wants it done and dusted as quickly as possible to prevent any more harm being done to her kids.
“She’ll give him £5m plus that white elephant of an island which was a total waste of money.

“He wants double that but he’ll take what’s being offered because if he gets into a fight with her then her pockets are much deeper than his.”
But sex tapes Mel allegedly made with Belafonte will haunt her forever.
She is terrified the hardcore footage could end up on the internet.
Mel, who was seen out and about in Beverly Hills at the weekend with daughters Angel and Madison, has filed court papers claiming Stephen beat her.
She also says he coerced her into sex sessions with other people which were recorded.
The insider said: “Mel’s terrified, not for herself, but for her children.
“She knows that Stephen would never release the tapes because he wouldn’t want his children being able to access the footage.
“But she is concerned about who else has had access to the tapes.”
