MEL B and Stephen Belafonte are facing a social services probe that could see their children taken away.
An FBI raid on their house would have meant the LA Department for Children and Family Services will have been alerted to the family’s turmoil.
The welfare agency might look at the situation and decide whether to launch a full-scale investigation.
Custody
Mel stated in court documents she is afraid for her children’s safety. Her sister Danielle Brown revealed her family had also feared for her.
She has taken out a restraining order against her estranged sex addict husband, accusing him of abuse that drove her to attempt suicide.
Mel claimed Belafonte was “violent” and made her take part in threesomes and film sex tapes.
If investigators deem the pair “unsafe”, Mel’s daughter with Belafonte, Madison, five, and her two ® other children – Angel, 10, and Phoenix Chi, 18 – could be taken away. Mel, who wants sole custody, stated in legal documents that Belafonte’s “emotional and physical abuse... in the presence of the minor child is tantamount to abuse of the minor child”.
She continued: “I have tried to leave the Respondent many times. Every time I tried, the Respondent threatened me with violence.
“He threatened to release sexually explicit videotapes claiming I would never again work in the entertainment industry.”
Mel could face awkward questions over why she did not leave Belafonte earlier and if she left the kids in the custody of a person she alleges is dangerous. He denies her claims.
But the day before it emerged Mel was seeking sole custody, she was seen dropping the children off at a Beverly Hills police station.
It is thought they were dropped off so Belafonte could see them. Mel’s spokesman would not comment. ross.kaniuk@dailystar.co.uk
