HEAD UP ’N AWAY

Clucas rallies travel-sick Tigers

- By JAMES DOBSON

SAM CLUCAS is backing Hull to banish their away-day blues, just in time to dodge the drop.

The relegation-haunted Tigers head for Stoke on Saturday having failed to win on their travels since beating Swansea 2-0 at the Liberty Stadium last August. That was their first Premier League match away from the KCOM this term, but since then they have lost 13 and picked up just two points from 15 trips. But midfielder Clucas, 25, believes they can beat Stoke before taking maximum points from their final two outings on opposition turf, at Southampton and Crystal Palace, to seal topflight survival. He said: “Our home form has been terrific but we are going to have to improve away if we are to stay in this division.

Twists

“To be fair, we haven’t always got the results that our performances deserved but hopefully we can turn that around. “It’s difficult to explain why there is such a contrast between our results at home and away because we don’t do anything different through the week in training. “It’s been important for us to get to 30 points with six games to go. You can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel.” Hull have hauled themselves out of the bottom three with a run of five wins and a draw at home since Marco Silva was drafted in as boss three months ago. And the Portuguese said: “There will be plenty of twists and turns to come over the next six games but I am confident we will be safe by the end of the season if we maintain our level of effort and quality.”
