CHOC giant Nestlé last night recalled thousands of bags of KitKat after a blunder that could kill someone with a nut allergy.

THOUSANDS of bags of chocolate were recalled after a blunder could have left life-threatening nuts in a batch of packets.

The Kit Kat Bites may have been “incorrectly packed” with KitKat Bites Peanut Butter, makers Nestlé revealed.

Nuts can kill people who have severe allergies.

The deadly slip-up came as the biggest chocolate-eating weekend of the year got under way.

A Nestlé spokesman warned yesterday: “We would ask consumers with nut or peanut allergies to be especially vigilant.

“There is a risk to anyone with a nut or peanut allergy who may consume their contents without realising.”

The company insisted the products were “otherwise safe to consume” and the recall was only “a precaution”.

Customers returning the snacks would be given a full refund. An Allergy UK spokesman said: “Reactions to peanuts or tree nuts can be severe, causing difficulty in breathing due to asthma or throat swelling, or a drop in blood pressure.”

The chocolate giant said the packs warn the product “may contain peanuts and nuts”. The mistake came just months after “reckless” Mohammed Zaman, 52, was jailed for six years for killing a customer with a curry. Allergic Paul Wilson, 38, died in January 2014 after eating a takeaway containing nuts from the Indian Garden in Easingwold, North Yorks. His dad Keith Wilson said: “I feel robbed that I won’t share the rest of my life with Paul.” The court heard the restaurant owner cut corners by using cheaper ingredients made with peanuts. Canadian Myriam Ducré-Lemay, 20, died in 2012 after kissing her boyfriend who had eaten a peanut butter sandwich. She hadn’t told him about her allergy and he ate the snack when she wasn’t in the room. Within minutes Myriam, of Montreal, was desperate for breath and she later died. Allergy UK said: “If you have a reaction in a public place, delegate someone to call an ambulance. If you must go to the toilet because of vomiting or diarrhoea, do not go alone. Do not go off quietly by yourself because you are embarrassed.”
