IT’S Record Store Day today and if you’re quick enough out of the blocks you might bag yourself a rare gem.
There are a number of key items all vinyl junkies should look out for, including two by David Bowie. Cracked Actor is a triple LP set recorded live in Los Angeles from 1974, while Bowpromo features alternate versions of Hunky Dory tunes and exclusive prints in a presentation set.
U2 also release a 2017 mix of Red Hill Mining Town as a 12” picture disc. Expect other vinyl limited editions by Fawlty Towers, The Cure, Madonna and even Aqua! But the brilliant rapper may have another shot at the top spot later this year after telling fans: “I got some more music.” His collaborator Kid Capri seemed to confirm the possibility, saying: “I think they’ve got some more stuff, there are some more things – coming out later – but for right now, that’s what happened.”
Kendrick has made a habit of dropping surprise music, after releasing his compilation album of outtakes, Untitled Unmastered, last year to no fanfair.
POP stars turned London Marathon runners Scouting For Girls are too busy writing a musical to train.
Instead of stretching their hamstrings, the She’s So Lovely hitmakers have been holed up in LA working on a Broadway show. From LA singer/pianist Roy Stride told me: “I’m working on a musical that is being made out here. It’s a bit hush hush, but it’s about a horse that rescues the crown jewels and it’s an animated musical, it’s so funny and it’s incredible.” All three lads are running tomorrow’s London Marathon for Alzheimer’s Society and it’s a charity close to Roy’s heart. He explained: “My mum suffered from dementia in the last five years of her life, so we want to raise £10,000.” Last month they bonded with EastEnders star and fellow runner Adam “Ian Beale” Woodyatt! Roy laughed: “We did the Silverstone half marathon and Greg bumped into Ian and ran the whole marathon with him! We are running buddies now. “Me and Greg went to school together and did music to get out of PE, so I cannot believe we are doing a marathon. “We decided this after a few too many beers.”
