PRINCE William and Kate were not impressed when they were sprayed with water by a cheeky marathon runner who squirted the Royals as he ran past them.

PRINCESS Kate joined Wills, Harry and nearly a million revellers to cheer on 40,000 runners in the London Marathon.

The beaming Royals jointly pressed a buzzer to start the big race on a gloriously sunny day.

They then took to the course to cheer on runners as they supported the race’s official charity Heads Together which campaigns on mental health issues.

Wills was also seen larking around with a horn.

However, he was later on the receiving end of a joke when a runner squirted him with a water pistol.

Kate, who was standing next to her husband, did not appear to see the funny side of the prank.

The royal trio said they hoped it will be the year of the “mental health marathon”.

Victory

They then congratulated runners – many in fancy dress – finishing the 26.2-mile course.

Scores of celebrities were among the 40,382 runners including EastEnders star Adam Woodyatt, who plays Ian Beale. He was running with his son Sam, 19, just months after the teenager was hit by a car.

Pop band Scouting For Girls also took part along with Made In Chelsea’s Ashley James, radio host Chris Evans and the Daily Star’s Wired editor James Cabooter.

Despite the Metropolitan Police saying “there is no specific intelligence that the marathon will be targeted”, the force still deployed thousands of armed officers to watch the streets.

The event saw a double victory for Kenyans, with Daniel Wanjiru winning the men’s event and Mary Keitany finishing first in the women’s race.

British wheelchair hero David Weir, 37, stormed to his seventh victory in his event.
