Nigel staying stopped drop Ollie admits he fears axe

-

NIGEL CLOUGH’S decision to snub Nottingham Forest has fired Burton’s survival bid.

Back-to-back Championship wins for the Brewers for the first time means they need a point from their last two games to guarantee safety.

Midfielder Lasse Vigen Christensen reckons Clough staying at the Pirelli Stadium has galvanised Burton.

Christensen, on loan from Fulham, said: “That was big. I’d only just come in and it was up in the air.

“But the gaffer brought me and a few of the other lads in, so we were happy he decided to stay.

“It was a big boost and it was important he gave that commitment to us because it showed he believed we could do it as well. We’ve done everything we can to pay that faith back.”

Clough said it would be a miracle if Burton survived but he certainly has the Midas touch against Leeds.

This was his seventh ®Êby TIM NASH straight win against the club who sacked his dad Brian after just 44 days.

Christensen called on Burton to keep Clough Jnr.

“It’s massive for him to stay on board,” he said. “For the influence he’s had, it’s been huge. For Burton, it would be big if they could keep hold of him.”

Four defeats in six games has dropped Leeds to seventh, three points off the play-offs.

Head coach Garry Monk admits the pressure is getting to his players.

He said: “A lot of this group have never been in this situation before but whatever happens, it’s a learning process for them. It’s something they’re going to gain from.”

Sub Michael Kightly set up Marvin Sordell to break the deadlock against the run of play on 75 minutes before steering home the second two minutes later prior to Kyle Bartley’s consolation.
