GREAT British Bake Off’s new host Sandi Toksvig is taking part in the BBC’s upcoming “gay season”.
Sandi will front a documentary about her favourite lesbian artist Hannah ‘Gluck’ Gluckstein.
The 1930s painter used to dress up as a man and even called her exhibitions “one man shows”.
Also joining the special season will be ex-Line Of Duty actor Daniel Mays and Sherlock’s Mark Gatiss.
They will appear in a drama Against The Law about real-life gay journalist Peter Wildeblood, whose lover – under pressure from the authorities – turned against him and got him sent to prison for homosexual acts. Meanwhile, Downton Abbey’s Laura Carmichael and Oscar winner Vanessa Redgrave will star in another drama – Man In An Orange Shirt – featuring two familylinked gay love stories set 60 years apart. And fellow Sherlock actor Andrew Scott will present a radio show about how gay men and women helped transform pop culture in the face of persistent oppression with the likes of New Wave and New Romantics. The shows are all to mark the 50th anniversary of The Sexual Offences Act, which decriminalised homosexual acts in private between two men over the age of 21. BBC Two controller Patrick Holland said: “This season is a powerful examination of how far we have come whilst also exploring how much further we have to travel.” DRAMA: Sandi
