The Belgian got the winner by heading home an Andros Townsend corner as Palace made it six victories in eight, including wins over Chelsea, Arsenal and now Liverpool.

Kop boss Jurgen Klopp believes his side will bounce back against Watford next week as Manchester United closed the gap in the race for the top four.

But he questioned whether Coutinho was too honest after the Brazilian stood up after a challenge from Martin Kelly when it was 1-1.

Klopp said: “Everybody tells me, ‘Yes, if he goes down, it’s a penalty. iIf he doesn’t go down, it’s not a penalty’.

“We should think about this. Honesty and desire is punished, I’m not sure it makes sense but it happens.”

Palace defender James Tomkins left Anfield with his foot in a protective case after a nasty challenge from Marko Grujic. at home play a superb attacking style in terms of football, which means that both full-backs will go right up the pitch.

“It is very similar to Arsenal, which means (Joel) Matip and Lovren are very exposed.

“If you get the right runners in behind, then they are two big men that don’t like turning and going back to goal, which is exactly where Yohan Cabaye came in today.”

Coutinho’s free-kick put Liverpool ahead before a ball forward from Joel Ward caught out James Milner and Dejan Lovren which allowed Cabaye to cross for Benteke to equalise.
