Shoot for the stars, Eden!
EDEN HAZARD can be as good as Lionel Messi if he learns to be more selfish.
That is the view of Cesc Fabregas after Hazard came off the bench to lead Chelsea to FA Cup semi-final glory against Tottenham.
He says the Belgian needs to be greedier in front of goal if he wants to challenge Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo for the title of world’s best player.
Fabregas said: “There is only one player above him and we all know who he is – Messi. Ability-wise, he’s up there with the best.
“I’ve told him many times, he needs to be selfish and have that killer instinct to score more goals and then he will be whatever he wants to be. We have to help him to achieve that.”
Hazard transformed the game when he came on in the 61st minute, scoring to put his under-pressure side ahead for the third time and then setting up a fourth for Nemanja Matic.
Fabregas added: “Sometimes when we have a counter-attack and it’s two against two and he passes the ball, I tell him, ‘You have the capability to score by yourself. Do it’.
“He has to do it more often. He has to be more selfish sometimes, as all the top, top players are.”
Antonio Conte sprung a surprise by starting with Hazard and Diego Costa on the bench. But Fabregas, who also came on, reckons they responded by showing the spirit and togetherness needed to win a Double. He said: “When we scored the first goal, everyone on the bench was together and celebrating. That strength, that’s what
you need to win titles.”
