Darragh so defiant

-

DEFENDER Darragh Lenihan says he will not let his missing ligament keep him out of Blackburn’s desperate survival fight.

The Irishman returned in the draw at Molineux less than three weeks after injuring his ankle.

Now the 23-year-old, who was initially ruled out for the rest of the season, says he is ready to play his part in Rovers’ make-or-break final two games.

“I was lucky that the injury is not as serious as it seemed when we first saw the surgeon,” said Lenihan.

“I just did as much as I possibly could to get back and thankfully it hasn’t flared up again. I ruptured one of my ligaments in my ankle but it’s OK now.

“I only have two ligaments in my ankle where I should really have three. But it’s one of those where, when you roll your ankle, it’s not the important ligament!”

Tony Mowbray’s men now have games against Aston Villa and Brentford as they bid to beat the drop after failing to escape the bottom three on Saturday.

Lenihan added: “Obviously nobody wants to be relegated in their career and we’ll do our best over the next two games not to let that happen.” In a dour game, the first serious effort on goal after 16 minutes saw Lenihan head wide.

With 24 minutes left Wolves keeper Andy Lonergan made a tumbling save to keep out an Elliott Bennett free-kick.

Just after that Lenihan made a superb saving tackle to deny Wolves substitute Morgan Gibbs-White.

Wolves midfielder George Saville said: “We were slow and lethargic and second to everything in the game.

“We didn’t really get going all day. A lot of the boys have played a lot of games so there could be some fatigue, but there are no real excuses. It just wasn’t good enough.”
