As well as two slices of wholemeal toast, fruit and Greek yoghurt, Joshua fuels up with five eggs every morning.

But eating just two could be enough for the rest of us, says a recent US study that found consuming a couple of eggs in the morning could actually help with weight loss. Eggs not only keep you feeling full but give you extra energy for the day.

Joshua eats his eggs poached, one of the healthiest ways to serve them.

Another big breakfast choice for boxers is porridge – both Joshua and female boxing legend Nicola Adams, 34, are fans.

It’s a brilliant breakfast choice as porridge is a great source of fibre and releases its energy slowly, so you avoid slumps. Porridge has also been associated with lowering your chances of developing cancer, heart disease and diabetes.

At lunch and dinner Joshua loads up with lean fish like salmon and chicken without the skin, which is a fattier part of the bird.

The fats Joshua does take in – one gram per kilo of bodyweight a day – are the so-called good type, monounsaturated fats contained in foods like avocados, which have been shown to help the heart.

Joshua eats two grams of protein per kilo of bodyweight per day, relying on foods like tuna to help build and repair muscles – ideal food post workout whether or not you’re heading for the ring.

Protein shakes are also a big part of the boxer’s arsenal and are a particular favourite with Tony “Bomber” Bellew, 34.

When it comes to veg, Joshua packs in the spinach and broccoli, which is stuffed with iron, vital for energy and muscle function.

His rival, Wladimir Klitschko, 41, loves to tuck into some red meat, which is another good source of iron.

A strong heart is vital to go the distance in boxing bouts and cardio work makes up an important part of any boxer’s drill. Anthony does 40 minutes every day, typically JAMES MOORE swimming. Klitschko reckons swimming is one of the best all-round workouts, saying: “I swim a lot. Swimming is one of the best because every single muscle is working.” Despite the diets that tell you to cut them out, carbs are a vital source of energy. In fact, the NHS advises that they make up just over a third of the food you eat. The likes of Joshua and Adams tend to rely on rice for carbs. Brown rice particularly helps to increase fibre intake. However Adams warns: “I won’t have carbs after 7pm because your body tends to store them as fat.” Joshua does lots of strength training work. Experts recommend you should do at least two sessions of muscle-strengthening activities a week, which can be anything from weight training to working with resistance bands. Boxers burn up to 1,000 calories an hour in the ring and the activity is brilliant for working off fat round the tummy. It’s fantastic for working legs and arms while skipping, which boxers use to get fit, is also brilliant for building calves. Boxing has also been found to strengthen your heart and help lower stress levels. Joshua endures two fourhour gym sessions a day. But the rest of us could benefit from one of the many boxing or kickboxing classes available in gyms up and down the country. Loads of celebs, including model Gigi Hadid, 21, are fans. Virgin Active gyms, for example, offer 60-minute boxing classes where you learn the art of jabs, hooks and upper cuts using pads. You’ll burn off at least 500 calories – the same as a burger. Fitness First offers 30-minute boxercise classes that help tone and strengthen the core. ¬ 3 WAYS TO ORDER: Daily Express Offer 0871 664 3482 shop.express.co.uk/VEXR604 Admail, ADM3952, Spalding, Lincs, PE11 1ZZ
