Izzy’s in to book play-offs

- By STEVE MADELEY Wolves 0 Huddersfield 1

® ON-LOAN Chelsea midfielder Izzy Brown ended Huddersfield’s blues with a long-range rocket to fire his side into the play-offs.

The 20-year-old bagged his fifth Terriers goal in spectacular style to give travelling fans something to cheer.

They had seen their side beaten 4-1 by Fulham on Saturday and Newcastle’s win over Preston on Monday ended any hopes of automatic promotion.

But Brown’s superb strike after 31 minutes gave David Wagner’s men a stylish lead which they were able to hold onto and make sure of a play-off place.

The first clear chance fell to the hosts when full-back Dominic Iorfa galloped forward and crossed for the late-arriving Dave Edwards.

The midfielder managed a decent header but Terriers goalkeeper Danny Ward made a comfortable save.

The visitors should have taken the lead after 11 minutes when Brown made room on the edge of the area and fed Nahki Wells.

The striker was unmarked 15 yards out but curled a right-footed effort high and wide when he should have tested keeper Harry Burgoyne.

Dangerous

Huddersfield defender Martin Cranie had to make an important interception to cut out a dangerous onetwo on the edge of the area between Ben Marshall and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson.

Then Wolves old boy Rajiv van la Parra advanced down the left and crossed for Wells, but his first-time shot was straight at Burgoyne.

Terriers defender Christopher Schindler sent a decent headed chance over the bar from a Chris Lowe free-kick.

But after a low-key opening half-hour, Huddersfield took the lead.

Brown was given room to let fly from 25 yards with a right-footed shot that beat Burgoyne and nestled in the corner of the net.

It was a poor attempt to save from 20-year-old Burgoyne, who stepped in after Andy Lonergan was injured in the warm-up.

Brown attempted to add a second two minutes into the second half when he danced past two defenders and hit a shot that took a deflection, but it was taken comfortably by Burgoyne.

Jack Price tried his luck for Wolves from long range but his effort flew harmlessly wide.

Wolves substitute Joe Mason produced a neat turn five minutes after being introduced at halftime but his right-footed drive flew wide of the near post.
