Brough justice lifts Giants

- by JULIE STOTT Leeds 12 Huddersfield 31

DANNY BROUGH masterminded a sensational win for strugglers Huddersfield to lift the pressure on Rick Stone.

The Giants coach appeared to be living on borrowed time after last weekend’s embarrassing Challenge Cup exit.

The defeat to part-timers Swinton extended their run without a win to nine games and they were huge underdogs here.

But Leeds, who would have gone top for the first time since 2015 if they had won, couldn’t handle the Giants’ desperation. Matt Parcell gave the home side the lead against the run of play, but the Giants kept on hunting down the Rhinos.

They got their reward with a cracking try from full-back Jake Mamo after a clever kick from centre Alex Mellor.

Minutes later they took the lead, thanks to a 40-20 from Brough helping set up a try for Kruise Leeming.

Brough converted both but Leeds pulled level before the break with Joel Moon’s eighth try in six games. Danny McGuire had an early second half effort disallowed but that was Leeds’ only real chance of a half dominated by Huddersfield, who scored 19 unanswered points.

Dale Ferguson grabbed his first try of the season and Darnell McIntosh added another four minutes later, from a Brough pass.

Brough added both conversions and then landed a drop goal to put them well in control.

Oliver Roberts forced his way over to seal the shock victory which moves them up a place into 10th.
