Vamps Smokin’
Harry Styles BOY Better Know GEORGE Michael’s Adele’s THE Vamps have such a bad EDM habit that they are in danger of becoming Chainsmokers.
The guitar-toting lads have reinvented their sound to reflect their love of US dance music.
And EDM heroes The Chainsmokers could be helping them become the real deal. Guitarist James McVey told me: “Working with The Chainsmokers is the dream.
“I’ve become friends with Alex Pall and I’ve been talking to Steve Aoki as well. There are one or two collaborations on our album!”
The band’s new single Middle Of The Night is another EDM crossover featuring DJ Martin Jensen.
James explained: “When we made our first two albums, we didn’t really know any DJs and our music was quite different, but now we are going for this EDM sort of feel, there’s new people we can work with.
“Brad (Simpson) and I worked with Sigala the other day.”
Guitar bands are struggling to be heard so evolving is essential to survive. James agreed: “The whole industry has changed over the last couple of years. Justin Bieber really encouraged that change.
“For us it was a natural progression to try something different and having a good time.”
Last year I told you how James was writing a sci-fi book, but his publishers have since asked him to write a different story.
He explained: “I’m slightly worried that people are going to see the book as me crying out for help. I had to write a disclaimer saying: ‘I don’t want to leave The Vamps’.” ¬
