FAN JAILED FOR ATTACK ON MASCOT

A FOOTBALL fan who threw a punch at a rival side’s eagle mascot during a brawl between supporters was jailed for 21 months yesterday.

Hooligan Daniel Boylett, 36, swung for Kayla, the bald eagle mascot of Crystal Palace, during a stormy derby match against Charlton Athletic at Palace’s Selhurst Park.

Dad-of-three and Charlton Athletic fan Boylett was seen throwing punches at stewards struggling to contain fans.

He was convicted of attempted criminal damage and violent disorder and banned from football matches for six years.

Fellow Charlton fan and convicted drug dealer Colin Kitto, 49, from Eltham, south-east London, was sentenced to 18 months for violent disorder.

He was also banned from going to football games for six years.

Sam Donegan, 25, of Bexley, south-east London, received a ninemonth jail term, suspended for two years for affray and criminal damage and was banned from games for a threeyear period.

Father-of-four Billy Cowcher, 32, from Greenwich, was sentenced to 12 months jail, suspended for two years for violent disorder and was also banned from games for three years.

At Croydon Crown Court, Judge Warwick McKinnon said “normal, peaceful, respectabl­e” supporters were “horrified” by football violence like this.
