Spurs face two-year itch

- By IAN BAKER

ARSENE WENGER has warned Tottenham they face two years of hell.

Spurs finally confirmed yesterday that they will play their home games at Wembley next season while White Hart Lane is demolished and the new stadium completed.

It means Tottenham’s traditional home will host its final north London derby tomorrow.

Arsenal boss Wenger – who masterminded his side’s move to the Emirates in 2006 – says the new ground won’t be as intimidating.

He also believes the Gunners’ rivals face being skint for a long time.

Wenger (right) said: “It will be very difficult for them, much more than you can imagine.

“First of all, you face financial restrictions, which we did. Overall, it might be less in future because you have more income.

“Secondly, you don’t feel at home like you were before.

“You need to recreate a kind of history to feel comfortable and to feel ® like you play at home. I would say it will take them two years.”

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy was more upbeat about the move, which will see the current White Hart Lane host its last game on May 14 against Manchester United.

He said: “This marks a momentous day in our club’s history as it is the day we formally agreed the demolition of our beloved White Hart Lane, which has been home for some 118 years.

“We shall ensure that we give the Lane a fitting farewell when we play our last match here on May 14.

“Wembley will be our home for a season and then we shall return to what will be one of the best stadiums of its kind and the most unique in the world, playing host to NFL games too – a stadium that will be key to our future growth and success.”
