LINE Of Duty TV fans were left reeling last night as the identity of sicko murderer “Balaclava Man”was revealed.

LINE Of Duty fans were left reeling last night as “Balaclava Man” was unmasked but remained unidentified.

For weeks fans had been guessing the identity of the hooded villain who attacked DS Steve Arnott and murdered two women.

Suspects included lawyer Jimmy Lakewell, DCI Roz Huntley’s husband Nick, Assistant Chief Constable Derek Hilton and even head of internal affairs DSI Ted Hastings.

In last night’s final episode of the series Balaclava Man was shot dead by police but viewers never saw his face or found out his name.

They were just told he was working for the secret ring of bent cops and lawyers who framed innocent people to boost their conviction rates.

DS Arnott – played by Martin Compston – from the anti-corruption unit AC-12, revealed: “He’s been identified as a known violent criminal with long-term associations going all the way back to Tommy Hunter.”

Colleague DS Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure) added: “His biometrics are an exact match to the images of Balaclava Man captured on the night of Leonie Collersdale’s disappearance and the day of the attack on Steve – even down to his boot print.”

Also in last night’s show, Huntley (Thandie Newton) finally admitted killing forensics expert Tim Ifield.

Line Of Duty has had ratings of seven million plus since moving from BBC Two to BBC One this year.
