MARVELLOUS MAY
Sizzler is on way after a soggy hol
MAY is set to be the hottest on record with a month-long sizzler starting tomorrow.
The soggy bank holiday will be followed by highs of 28C.
A poll revealed Brits spent only six hours and 14 minutes in the great outdoors over the weekend due to the disappointing weather.
After snow last week in the Midlands and north, a rain band hit the south and Midlands yesterday with bank holiday showers today.
But bookies are slashing the odds of May being the hottest since records began in 1910 from 8-1 to 4-1.
Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “With Britain set to sizzle for a month, the odds on May being the hottest ever are evaporating.”
The mercury will soar from a chilly 16C to 20C tomorrow. Temperatures ® are expected to rocket later in the week, with hot air from the Mediterranean sweeping in.
Weather Outlook forecaster Brian Gaze said: “After a mixed bank holiday weekend, warmer air will move over the majority of the country as temperatures trend upwards. “The mercury could soar early this year, with an increased chance of very warm air being pulled up from southern Europe in May.
“It looks increasingly settled so it will probably be back to watering the garden.”
The cool weekend forced a third of people to catch up on TV and one in four put DIY and gardening at the top of their to-do list, according to outdoor furniture retailer Alfresia.co.uk.
