Lee on roll for play-off glory

KIERAN LEE says Sheffield Wednesday don’t fear any of their play-off rivals.

Lee’s 77th-minute winner gave the Owls a sixth win in a row, their best run since 1993.

“Confidence is high going into the play-offs and it is a massive thing to have the momentum,” said the former Oldham man.

“We need to keep that going now and go one better than last year.”

Wednesday lost out in the play-off final at Wembley last season.

Lee added: “I really don’t care who we play. Whoever we get we believe we can beat any of them. We are confident we can get through and it doesn’t matter if we play first, second or whoever.

“We have won six in a row and we want to keep that going. We will be the team everyone wants to avoid.”

Ross Wallace hit a post before Lee struck his winner after tucking away a Daniel Pudil cross for his third goal in four games for Wednesday at Portman Road.

“I don’t know what it is about Portman Road, it is just one of those grounds where I seem to score,” said Lee.

Defeat was Mick McCarthy’s first in 15 games as a manager against Wednesday.

He is under pressure after another disappointing season but on-loan forward Tom Lawrence said the stick he gets from fans is unfair.

“The fans need to look at what the manager has done since he came in the door,” he said.

“They need to keep the faith. It showed against Newcastle when the fans are behind the team they play better.”
