KLOPP IN FAB GRAB

Kop scrap over Cesc

- by DAVID WOODS

LIVERPOOL are set to swoop for Cesc Fabregas.

Kop boss Jurgen Klopp is ready to do battle with Manchester United for the World Cup winner this summer.

Chelsea midfielder Fabregas (right) is not angling for a move from Stamford Bridge, but the Spain star knows he could slip further down the pecking order next season. Blues boss Antonio Conte is planning a major reshaping of his squad this summer, with the red-hot title favourites back

in the Champions League. They are chasing Monaco’s £40m-rated Tiemoue Bakayoko, who is wanted to form a central midfield partnership with N’Golo Kante.

Fabregas also has Nemanja Matic to compete with.

Player of the Year Kante and Serbian Matic have started 33 and 28 Premier League games respectively this season, while Fabregas has managed just 10.

Although he would be reluctant to leave, the Spaniard, who turns 30 tomorrow, knows he is wanted by Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.

And the news that Klopp is also on his trail will come as a welcome boost to the former Arsenal star.

Mourinho signed Fabregas from Barcelona for £27m in 2014 and Chelsea would want to bring in a similar amount for a player who has two years left on his contract.

But Klopp might be able to offer the playmaker Champions League football, with Liverpool certain to qualify if they win their final three league games.

Both Milan clubs have shown a strong interest in Fabregas but he wants to stay in England if he feels he needs to move away from Chelsea this summer.
