TIME TO PUL OUT MONEY

- by DAVE ARMITAGE

TONY PULIS is confident West Brom’s new owners are ready to make a big splash in the summer transfer market.

The Baggies are set for a top-10 finish despite only spending around £20m last summer.

Well over half of that was the £13m for Nacer Chadli from Tottenham.

Albion’s spending has been restricted with the takeover of the club by new Chinese owners.

Pulis (right) hopes he has convinced them his threadbare and ageing squad needs major investment.

The Baggies boss said: “There was a change of ownership, so there’s much more stability now at the football club.

“I think there will be a better direction and a better understanding of what we at the football club need. Last year, because of the change over, I think people were caught up in the vacuum really and it didn’t help.”

Pulis emphasised the need for quality recruits like ex-Manchester United pair Darren Fletcher and Jonny Evans.

Pulis added: “It’s not just spending the money or just getting players, it’s about getting good players to improve the group. “Never mind how much it costs, we want to stay solvent and run it professionally.

“It’s not just about throwing money down an empty hole – a lot of clubs have done that and not been very successful because the signings haven’t been that good.

“You have to be careful with the money. There will be a lot of activity everywhere.

“But we’re hoping we can sail under all the steam that’s flying around and pick one or two good players out.”
