DEVILS ON THE MOVE

New ground, new name for Salford

-

SALFORD RED DEVILS could be set to change their name – and move home.

The club are considering rebranding as Manchester Red Devils to broaden their appeal and boost poor crowds.

A move away from the AJ Bell Stadium is also on the table as part of a consultation process involving fans and sponsors.

Salford are flying high in Super League this season and playing some of the best rugby in the competition.

But they got a crowd of only 3,128 for their win over Widnes last Sunday with just 501 of those paying on the gate.

Objected

They have broken the 6,000 mark only once this season, against champions Wigan on the opening day.

Access and public transport links are poor at their current home, which has never been popular with fans since they left The Willows at the end of 2011.

Meanwhile, Wayne Bennett has warned England to stop dreaming and get stuck in.

The national coach has come under fire for the way he’s preparing England for the World Cup later this year.

A training camp in Dubai was ditched after club coaches objected and tomorrow’s mid-season Test in Australia against Samoa has caused controversy too.

With a full round of Super League fixtures it means several clubs are missing star names, Warrington and Castleford losing three each.

But Bennett said: “We’re trying to make things happen and it’s no good sitting at home dreaming about results.

“We’ve got to get out there, be in the middle of it, be committed to it
