Kasper won’t be out-Foxed
LEICESTER are confident they can fend off a £35m summer raid for keeper Kasper Schmeichel.
Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool are all ready to move for the Dane.
Schmeichel has been in top form for the Foxes, a season after landing the title with Leicester.
But asked if he thought the 30-year-old will still be a Leicester player next season, boss Craig Shakespeare said: “I do.
“He’s in the form of his life and he’s happy here. He’s been professional and his level of performance shows that.
“He’s a very strong character. I’m not aware of any interest in him. Ultimately I think Kasper is happy here.
“He’s under a long-term contract with us and if bids come in, we don’t need to sell him.”
Schmeichel only signed a bumper new £100,000-aweek deal last August but that’s likely to have little sway if a big club bids.
He has recently changed agents, but Shakespeare says he doesn’t attach any significance to that.
“He’s perfectly entitled to change his agent,” said Shakespeare.
“I don’t have a problem with players wanting to progress.
“We’ve had no offers, so we will cross that bridge when we come to it. ”
United are in limbo over whether David De Gea will move to Real Madrid this summer, while City and Liverpool are both ready to strengthen by recruiting a top-class No.1.
Schmeichel is believed to favour following in his dad Peter’s footsteps with a move to Old Trafford, if and when United come calling.
