BRITAIN is set for a scorcher as a blast of warm European air sends temperatures soaring this week.

The UK will bask in weather hotter than Rome and the south of France with the mercury nudging 21C.

Sunseekers are expected to pack the beaches and dust off the barbecues as the first real hot weather of the year for the whole country blows in.

Met Office forecaster Martin Bowles said: “It is certainly going to turn warmer compared to last week with temperatures increasing in the next few days.

“Wednesday looks very nice with widespread sunshine everywhere apart from Scotland.”

By the middle of the week most places will be in the high teens with 21C possible, although eastern areas could be a little cooler.

And the great north-south divide is over, with people across Britain set to bask in glorious sunshine. The summery spell will last until the weekend before the weather takes a turn for the worse.

“Towards the end of the week and into next weekend there will be a bit of a breakdown, Mr Bowles said.

However a mini heatwave is in prospect later this month.

Exacta Weather forecaster James Madden said Britain could have a “proper taste of summer” in the next two weeks.

He added: “Maximum temperatures could climb into the mid 20Cs for several days.”
