Cab not ready to hit road

- By IAN WHITTELL

WILLY CABALLERO is desperate to help Manchester City book a top-four finish and show Pep Guardiola he is worth a new deal at the Etihad.

The Argentinian, 35, will play the remainder of the season after Claudio Bravo suffered a calf injury.

And with the keeper still uncertain whether he has a future under Guardiola, the last three league games could be crucial to his City career.

Caballero said: “Yes, yes of course I want to stay.

“It’s an amazing team and club with fantastic players, so I think every player wants to stay.

“It depends on a lot of things but the most important thing for me is to do my best.

Agent

“I have my opportunity to play now and to try to show what I can do and how I can help the team.

“So I have to keep going and after we will speak with the club and my agent.”

Caballero has started just 18 league games in nearly three years with the club.

But after City paid Barcelona £15.4m for Bravo last summer, he eventually won the starting place from his out-of-form rival and has largely impressed.

Caballero said: “I tried to be focused when Claudio started to play again and I trained well. I kept my professionalism and unfortunately he probably can’t play until next season.

“But I trained really hard for this opportunity and I am now not focused on Claudio and me, it’s about the team.”
