Evans in £1m Blades bonus
CHED EVANS will bank £1m for returning to Sheffield United.
The Welsh striker (right) is thought to be on a six-figure signing-on fee after rejoining the club from Chesterfield.
He last played for the Blades in 2012 before being jailed. His rape conviction
was quashed in April 2016 and he was found not guilty following a retrial six months later.
Evans has signed a three-year deal with the League One champions and said: “I’m delighted to be back.
“I still feel I have plenty to prove in football both at club and international level and I believe I can achieve those goals at United.”
Evans, 28, came close to re-signing for the club three years ago before widespread opposition.
Blades revoked an initial offer to allow him to use their training facilities after 170,000 people signed a petition in protest.
Four patrons cut their ties with the club and local Olympic hero Jessica Ennis-Hill demanded her name was removed from a stand at Bramall Lane.
Blades boss Chris Wilder said: “We pride ourselves on team spirit, as fans have seen, and plan to bring in players to be part of that.
“Ched will have targets to achieve. With a full pre-season, we believe he can provide us with options up front and score goals.”
